Support sustainability in Kansas City by attending this inaugural Green Wish event. Green Wish is a non-profit organization which promotes sustainability education and raises money for five small, local, non-profit, green organizations. Ninety cents on the dollar raised goes directly back to these five organizations. The local organizations supported are: Jerusalem Farm, Bridging the Gap, Kansas City Food Circle, Martha Lafite Nature Sanctuary and Kansas City Community Gardens.

Enjoy an evening sampling signature dishes from locally sourced restaurants, learn more about the green initiatives in Kansas City and hear from Green Wish founder, Raphael Sbarge, who is a distinguished actor and is currently on the shows Once Upon A Time and Chicago Fire.

Avila President, Ron Slepitza has graciously offered to have Avila pay for the first 20 students who sign up now to go to the event. You can sign up by contacting Jason Baldwin at jason.baldwin@avila.edu.
Additional tickets can be purchased at http://bit.ly/Jc7riX for $35.

How it works: Any student with a meal plan can donate a swipe of their card to go towards donating food to either Christ the King Food Pantry or Heifer International. Students who donate from a 7 or 14 meal plan will contribute to purchasing an animal for a family in need through Heifer International. Students who donate from a 19 meal plan will contribute to the purchase of food for Christ the King Food Pantry (our Waldo neighbors). Later, the cafeteria staff will deduct the meal(s) from your account. This is a great opportunity to give of your excess to alleviate the needs of our Kansas City and global neighbors.

Combine The Hunger Games movie with Oxfam America’s Hunger Banquet and you get a student-led interactive simulation of global hunger. Our world is filled with hunger, we just don’t always have the lens to see it. According to the Gospel of Matthew (‘When I was hungry, you gave me food’ Mt 25), Jesus instructs that we feed those who hunger, no matter who or where they are. Whether you eat a lot, a little, or barely anything at all depends on what district you’re randomly assigned to during this eye opening event. ‘May the odds be ever at your favor!’ (Hunger Games)
